BYE FELICIA

Any fan of the cult classic “Friday” remembers the dismissal of the pretty crackhead played by Angela Means.

“Bye Felicia” became a tagline for dismissal and unfortunately the draft fortunes of her son Brad Kaaya have reverted to being worthy of the irony and cruelty that the Internet lends when such easy dots are connected and unavoidable to pass on.

The three year starter for the University of Miami had once been considered a potential first round pick. Many seemed to think he still had the potential to be a starter in the NFL. Standing 6’4″ 214 pounds, playing for a major program, his status seemed much more promising then the results from this draft.

214 other players were picked before Brad Kaaya, including a number of lesser known and ranked quarterbacks, before the Detroit Lions finally selected him in the sixth round (out of seven). He will have an opportunity to compete for the backup role behind starter Matthew Stafford, and his NFL career could still be long and impactful. While Tom Brady was a sixth round pick of the Patriots, it is still rare for quarterbacks picked that low to succeed because generally the investment teams are required to make in them is so minimal as to not provide the same opportunity that higher picks and free agents would normally receive.

I am unsure why Kaaya dropped so low, but I wish him luck, specially now considering that the Internet and social media have picked up on his connection to his mother’s most known acting role. I am sure it is a tag line he will not want to be known nor remembered by.
