50 SHADES OF MEL B

There are actual cottage industries built on the insatiable thirst for insights into the lives of celebrities. From tabloid journalism which includes the likes of gossip magazines, to entertainment centric television and the likes of TMZ, the public are perpetual voyeurs into the lives of celebrities. Reality shows like Keeping Up With The Kardashians give us and even supposed more personal glimpse into celebrity life, but between unsubstantiated rumors, a celebrity’s public relation spin control, editing and scripting that we know these “reality” shows now contain, it is always difficult to tell what really goes on behind the mansion walls, particularly in their bedrooms… and then we are given gifts like the ongoing saga provided by Mel B and her failed marriage.

The old adage that good help is hard to find seemed to take on an entirely different meaning in Mel B’s household. The X Factor judge accused her husband Stephen Belafonte of having an affair with their nanny that resulted in a subsequently aborted pregnancy.

Coupled with accusations that Belafonte physically abused her in addition to threatening her with the release of sex tapes as leverage against her, things appear understatedly “messy” in her household. Belafonte has vehemently denied the allegations of abuse, and their civil divorce case has failed to proceed far enough to offer evidence to substantiate the allegations beyond Mel B releasing pictures showing apparent facial bruising.

We may never know the “truth” of what occurred behind her closed doors, but apparently we are going to hear lots more information and stories behind the sex life of Mel B, starting with her divorce proceedings that were quickly followed with a libel suit filed by the aforementioned nanny.

The suit admits that the nanny did have sex with Belafonte, but instead of it being a clandestine affair, she alleges it was all initiated by Mel B, who was the primary beneficiary of any amorous pursuits, with Belafonte only participating with Mel B’s permission. The nanny further added that Mel B was often the director and cameraperson when the threesomes were recorded  and claims that she never engaged in a sexual relationship with Belafonte independent of Mel B… Excuse me while I check on my popcorn while waiting for a response to my application to become Mel B’s new manager… don’t judge the first point in the job description called to pick a new nanny and in the job qualifications it asked for the number of years of video recording experience.

It isn’t often that we actually get a real and true voyeuristic experience into the bedroom activities of real celebrities. The Spice Girls were once one of the biggest female musical acts of all time. Her more recent tenures on Dancing With The Stars or as various X-Factor judges, belie that Mel B is a known worldwide figure.

Most celebrities make their employees sign confidentiality agreements so we rarely get to hear anything other than a sanitized addressing by public relations reps. Instead Mel B’s initial public relation move to demonize her husband/manager and potentially get out in front of the perceived embarrassment of sex tapes that could be released, instead opened up a potential pandoras box of  secrets that forget Fifty Shades of Grey, make this a potential remake of Sex Lies and Videotape meets 9 1/2 Weeks.

I would not at all be surprised if Mel B’s reps are not already secretly negotiating with Vivid for the rights to the videos, including the requisite shock at them being released. A Spice Girl sex tape was already valuable… A Spice Girl in a interracial 3 some with lesbian scenes… I predict a blockbuster along the lines of the infamous Kim Kardashian tapes… I’ll come back to this later…my popcorn appears to be ready.
