MURDER IN CALI

Like many of you I am an avid watcher of Dateline, 48 Hours and ID (Investigation Discovery) Channel. Sex, Money and Murder normally captivate our attention and many of these investigative news shows hit on a combination of all three.

The news of a California woman reportedly set to post bail that had been set at $35 Million dollars immediately caught my attention. I had never heard of Tiffany Li, but now I was fascinated by who she was and what she had even done to garner a bail of $35 Million.

If she posts, which had not actually occurred as of the time of this writing, it would be the eighth highest recording of posted bail in this country in state court. Since she is placing property as collateral instead of cash, by state law, the value of the property has to be at least twice the value of the bail. Meaning that the actual equity values of the property collateralized has to be minimally placed at $70 Million dollars.

I have yet to find much information on Tiffany Li, other than that she is a part of a wealthy Chinese family that has significant real estate holding in the United States. A car collection that included a Ferrari, Rolls Royce, Range Rover and Mercedes AMG 63 G Wagon, along with several nannies and staff have been reported at the house that Tiffany Li lived within Hillsborough in Sonoma County, California. The source of the family’s wealth is largely unknown and unreported and not much is known about Tiffany other than she is the mother of two young girls (ages 2 & 4) and that she was in the midst of a contentious custody battle with the children’s father.

Was, because the father of her children, Keith Green, was found dead on May 11, 2016. He was initially reported missing on April 29th, a day after a scheduled meeting between Green and Li at a Pancake House near the apartment he lived. Li admits to the meeting, saying after an hour of discussing their custody battle, Green left. Li had previously charged Green with being abusive toward her, though those accusations had not been substantiated or adjudicated up to that point. Still he had been restricted to supervised visitations with his two girls, and that supervision was being rescinded for his next scheduled visit on April 30.

As part of the evidence against Li and her co-conspirators, boyfriend Kaveh Bayet and a friend Olivier Adella (Li and Bayet served as witnesses at his wedding 10 days after the murder), prosecutors allege Green suffered  a chipped tooth, indicative of the murder weapon probably being placed in his mouth. He died from a single gun shot wound to the neck. His body was found nude, excepting a pair of socks, and badly decomposed. Yet his cell phone which is being alleged to have pinged from inside Li’s Mansion on the night of April 28th provides proof he was in Li’s house the night of his murder.

On the night of April 28th the police are also alleging that video cameras caught Adella’s 2005 Chrysler trailing Li’s Mercedes on the road back to her house. Shortly after the murder, the 6-5 260lb MMA fighting, Limousine driving, security guard traded his Chrysler in, where it was noted it smelled strongly of bleach.

Adella waved his rights to any preliminary hearing, and the information available has come from the bail and other hearings for Bayet and Li. I am unsure why this case has yet to make America’s radar. Keith Green’s senseless killing occurred nearly 10 months ago, but the actual case still appears to be unready for trial. I know that with Li in jail there have been custody issues and hearings and Green’s mother has been caring for the two girls despite protests from Li’s mother who’s primary residence had been Beijing, before moving into the home Li resided to try and care for the kids. The kids were removed from the home with Li’s mother and placed with Green’s mother.

I am sure as the case progresses, the attention it receives will increase. No matter what Dateline and ID do, I will provide updates as critical moments of the case occur.
