OJ SIMPSON HAS LOST HIS MIND

By Richard Ray:

I caught parts of the interview OJ Simpson sat down for with Judith Regan. The truth is the Fox aired program was taken from footage shot in 2006. The interview was originally supposed to air as part of the promotion for the book Simpson co-authored “If I did it” in which he gives a hypothetical confession detailing “if” he killed his ex-wife Nicole Simpson and Ron Goldman, how he “hypothetically” would have done it.

Most of us had heard about this hypothetical confession scenario in the book, even if we had not actually read it ourselves. I am not sure why Fox decided to broadcast the 2006 interview now, but regardless of their agenda and even creative editing, seeing OJ speak about these murders was the final proof that not only did this guy get away with the double homicide he is absolutely out of his mind for continuing to ever talk about the subject.

I do not care how many of you protest or deny, but I am claiming that nearly every person has given some thought to ending someone’s life. Whether it was a person who had hurt you or someone in your family, hearing about someone preying on women or children or even just a hypothetical situation with a really bad person, the thought of killing someone has minimally crossed all of our minds even if just for seconds.

Yet, the overwhelmingly vast majority of our population has never killed anyone. Mainly because taking a life goes against most of our morals and ethics. There is also the issue that no one wants to get caught and face the penalties that come with taking a life. I am vastly oversimplifying the subject, but you get the point. OJ was acquitted of two murders. Though deeply divided on the subject and usually along racial lines, OJ could never be tried in state court for the murders because of double jeopardy laws. However, he faced a civil wrongful death suit and lost to the Goldman family in an amount exceeding thirty million dollars.

This made OJ’s decision to write a book and agree to an interview in the first place so perplexing. The civil judgment was already in place so he actually stood to have no financial gain from the book. In fact the Goldman’s went to court and ended up with his ownership stake in the book. So why would he sit down and write this book and give this interview detailing his murder of Nicole and Ron Goldman?

American society has gotten used to the legal qualifier of having to say “allegedly” or “alleged” in front of suspected acts or suspects themselves prior to any convictions. In this case “allegedly” was replaced by “hypothetically”. I have never met OJ. Yet, everything I have ever read about the man from friends and foes alike detail his incessant need to be publicly liked. This was validated by so many of his words in the interview in which he talked about having issues with the public’s perception of him after the murders.

So how could someone so consumed with their public image do something so universally stupid? That mother****** is crazy that’s why. Clearly he thinks/thought that he could control the narrative by giving his side. Johnnie Cochran passed in 2005 and I’m sure he was turning over in his grave at the stupidity of a client acquitted of such a publicly inflammatory crime giving hypothetical confessions. You see while double jeopardy is not allowed in state cases there are some rare exceptions in which the Federal Government will retry state cases under applicable federal laws. This has not happened in OJ’s case and may never, but why would you open yourself to such a possibility. Hedging the confession as hypothetical is not in fact a legal confession, but in the court of public opinions even those that once held out that OJ may not have done it cause he was framed by dirty cops, now see that this guy did it. The cops may have still been overzealous and dirty, but OJ’s chances of finding twelve Black people to acquit him after seeing his hypothetical confession would be close to non-existent.

Throw in the fact that he was not able to profit from the book and interview and we no longer need to ask why OJ does any of the stupid mess he does, because we now know he is certifiably crazy and I say this with no disrespect to those that suffer clinically diagnosed mental health issues. OJ got away with murder. He has a substantial lifetime pension that is untouchable by civil lawsuits. Any sane person would have collected their money and stayed out of the public eye. Not this dolt. A segment of the population believes in your innocence somehow, why not give an interview in which you describe in detail how you would have killed them?

The only saving grace for OJ is that this interview is over twelve years old. OJ is seventy now and recently released from prison for an unrelated offense in Las Vegas. He is who he is whether you like it or not. The case is over and history. Hopefully he will just stay out of the public eye long enough to allow us all to move past our own transgressions in celebrity worship for the clearly undeserving.
