MOVE B****

This is a (PSA) Public Service Announcement. Any outrage or anguish over my misogynistic title should be directed to my mother. She has taught me a wholehearted love and respect for women, but allows the use of all profanity in very special cases, particularly when not specifically referring to a class of people.

Now back to our regularly scheduled program.

WTF- Why the Fuck do people not understand the basic rules of driving. There are so many and I could do a twelve hour tutorial on driving etiquette but I will limit this session to a quick read and focus on one particular issue that drives the majority of us mad on a daily basis.

THE LEFT LANE IS FOR PASSING ONLY.

I do not care if it is a two-lane road, the left lane should be strictly for passing. If you are not driving with the flow of traffic (even if that flow may be above the speed limit), move over. The left lane is for faster traffic period! Why does this bother me so, because it is something that affects all of us that drive.

On any roadway containing more than two directional lanes you should never be in the left lane continuously for more than a minute unless specifically passing. As a general rule (call it common sense) if you are in the Left/passing lane and there are more than two car lengths ahead of you and a car either behind you or fast approaching, move over to the right. Trust me it won’t hurt. You might actually see people waive in approval instead of the middle finger you are more accustomed to receiving.

It isn’t your job to police the flow of traffic, so let common sense and not the emotion, ego and false bravado that seem to prevail when people get behind the wheel of several ton vehicles. Road rage is real but such an unnecessary component to our time spent on the roadways.

Let this PSA be the first step in invoking a degree of common sense and most importantly consideration in our driving experiences. Think about the anger and energy spent in trying to disallow someone to cut in front of you in a lane. Whether its out of necessity (because a lane is closing) or simply because they were inconsiderate, the time it takes to try and force them from going in front of you could more easily be spent letting a car go one car length in front of you. I assure you that one additional car that you let in was not going to make a difference in you being late to your destination… but the gesture will make you considerably less enraged and agitated from the experience.
