I WRITE BECAUSE

By Richard Ray:

I write because I don’t have a face made for television.

I write because I don’t have a voice made for radio.

I write because I have something to say.

I write because, I actually believe my experiences (mostly the manual of avoidance) can be used to help others.

I write because I love it.

I write because I can.

I truly believe that we all have a great story to tell. Most people’s lives, have at least some element to them, that make them fascinating. Some people are great story tellers. Others just have great stories. I learn something new everyday. Whether it is facts on a subject, history, technology, a different perspective that somehow helps lead me to greater empathy. Our experiences and interactions with others shape our very existence and often these stories and experiences are worth sharing.

I write on a vast array of subject matter. From socio-political commentary, to inspirational to (attempted) comedic rants to sports,  I share it all. It is still to be determined whether I am doing too much or not enough. The success of this site will be judged in part for its readership numbers. I have ambitious goals for what I think this site can grow into. The motives are far more pure than they are financial.

I hope that my musings help others. I hope that they are in some way entertaining, perhaps even educational. Yet, I ultimately hope that my daily efforts will lead to the establishment of a platform that others far more learned and talented than I can use and build upon to further help and inspire others.

Some days I am asked to write about subjects. Often the pieces are unsolicited offerings that are put out with the hopes of being well read and well received. So far so good, but I am in this for the long term, and realize I have so much more work to do to make this site a viable and effective platform. I love what I do. It is never work, but at the same time it is not always easy.

My mind is a challenge to harness on a hourly basis. It is one of the reasons I have such difficulty in turning it off to sleep. I do not write the first thing that comes to my mind. Admittedly if I did, the site might be more controversial and interesting, but I am not in this to be sensationalist for the sake of sensationalism. That may still happen on occasion, but I am trying to set a tone. A tone of positivity in an ever turbulent world. I am unafraid of delving into sensitive or controversial topics, but always try to never write, from emotion. We have King Tweet Trumpito already for that job.

I try to have a positive tone in part because even though social injustices and bullying anger me to no end, I am also ever cognizant of my blessings and how far I have come in life. My luck in circumventing some of life’s pitfalls, specially as a Person of Color (POC) born into rather meager beginnings, make me both appreciative for my present and vigilant to pay back/pay it forward to others that may be less lucky and blessed as I.

So I write everyday. I build a body of work. Somedays the product is better than others. It always comes from a place of purity of heart. No motivations beyond hoping to make a positive difference in someone’s life. I try and share knowledge I wish I would have learned twenty years ago. My opinions are my own. I do not take myself too seriously, but I write because I love that I can. I write to hopefully create a sustainable platform that others can build upon. I write because I have stories to tell… we all do.
